Abstract

2880. Gendeblen, H. Feb. 27, 1907, [date applied for under Section 91 of Patents &c. Act, 1907]. Motor road vehicles.-Relates to pneumatic suspension for automobile and other vehicles, of the kind in which intercommunicating air-cushions are used. The frame is connected to the axles by toggles, the free ends of which are connected to pistons in cylinders containing compressed air. Fig. 1 shows an elevation and Fig. 2 a plan of the arrangement in diagrammatic form. Compressed air is supplied through a valve s, Fig. 1, as desired, the pressure, as measured by a gauge t, being regulated to suit the load. The toggles are connected to the frame and axles respectively at the points b, p, and the free ends c, d of the toggles are fastened to the ends of rods fixed to pistons e,f. Compartments g, h contain the compressed air and communicate with each other by pipes i. There is also a transverse cylinder l containing a piston m, which is in communication with the central chambers h by pipesj, k. When the front wheels pass over an obstacle, the system transmits the shock to the whole of the frame, thus keeping the frame parallel to the ground. In turning to the right or left, the effect of the centrifugal force is to raise the outer side in consequence of the difference of pressure between the two sides caused by the action of the cylinder l.
