Line-towing apparatus.-In life-saving apparatus of the kind that comprises a balloon used to carry a life-line to the shore or to another ship, the balloon contains an incandescent lamp L and carries suspended from a ring B a battery or commutator, a pyrotechnic light M, a box K for messages, and a boat-shaped float. The line F is also attached to the ring B and is on a reel G, which is mounted on a bar so as to revolve freely, the paying out of the line being stopped when it is desired to bring down the balloon. The float H is of wood or other substance, and is connected to the balloon by a wire I. The electric glow lamp L is suspended in the balloon. The apparatus together with a cylinder of hydrogen is designed to be stored in a small box.
