Stoppers.- A yielding downward pressure is exerted on the stopper of a bottle, jar, or like vessel by placing a retaining-band around the vessel and providing a resilient and permanent connexion between the closure and the band, the connexion preventing accidental displacement of the stopper when withdrawn. The retaining-band may serve as a label 10, which is pasted over a rubber strap 8 secured in a kerf 9, Fig. 3, in the top of the stopper 7. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the stopper is revolubly connected to the strap 11, which passes right round the bottle. In another modification, shown in Fig. 5, the retaining-band is integral with the strap 13 and encircles the bottle neck. In another form of the invention, the stopper 7, Fig. 7, is revolubly mounted in the end of a flexible metal strip 15, which may be secured to the bottle by a label 10, or by a clampband provided with a nut and bolt. The pivotal connexion of the stoppers in Figs. 4 and 7 permits the stopper to be rotated in the neck of the bottle, to facilitate withdrawal when the bottle contains viscous materials.
