Air and steam supplying.-A mixture of air and exhaust steam is heated in one or more chambers 3 and a series of tubes 4 at the sides of a furnace before passing to the ash pit, which is closed. Steam enters the chambers 3 through pipes 2 having openings 2<1> for the escape of water of condensation, and air enters at the top through adjustable openings at 8. The mixture then passes through the tubes 4 to the ash-pit, and through the grate 1. To enable the tubes 4 to expand without deformation, they are suspended from the top tubeplate by a collar 17, Fig. 4, and are simply inserted into the bottom tube-plate.
