Abstract

190,738. Frood, H. June 24, 1921. Clutches, friction.-Discs or linings for clutches are made by winding on a mandrel 5 a woven fabric 4 of cotton, asbestos, or other organic or inorganic fibres into the form of a tube, impregnating it with a cementitious binder, such as the enamel described in Specification 4627/09 or one of the synthetic resins or phenol-aldehyde ccndensation products, hardening or finishing-off the binder, and cutting rings from the tube. The faces of the rings may be trued up by grinding &c. The tube may be impregnated by immersion under pressure, in a partial vacuum, or otherwise, or the fabric 4 may be passed, as shown, through a trough 6. Doctors 7 may be provided to remove superfluous binder. In order to consolidate the tube, internal or external pressure or both may be applied thereto, or the fabric may be wound under tension. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 178,883.
