Abstract

27,861. Cruikshank & Co., and Shanks, J, K. Dec. 18. Chairs.-The stands of swivelling chairs, such as are used in ships' dining-saloons, are constructed in two portions, each of which comprises a pair of legs, such as a, b, connected by a transverse rib g<1>. The connecting-rib of one pair of legs is recessed upwards, as shown at k, Fig. 1, and the rib of the other pair of legs has a corresponding downward recess. Each rib has flanges l, m and i, j projecting at right-angles, and bolts are passed through these flanges and through the ribs themselves in order to secure the pairs of legs together. A central opening n is left in the ribs for the securing- bolt of the chair. For obtaining greater accuracy in construction, the pairs of legs are cast with a transverse connecting-piece (shown in dotted lines), which is afterwards cut away, the projecting parts p, q, s, t being riveted to the disk on which the chair seat revolves.
