Abstract
26,428. Gregory, G. R., and Brown, W. Nov. 29. Air, supplying; smoke - consuming; combustion products returning to furnaces.-In steam-generator and other furnaces, and particularly in furnaces of the kind described in Specifications No. 23,099, A.D. 1900, and Nos. 12,372, 12,372A, and 21,432, A.D. 1906, air or a mixture of air and steam is forced through the fuel at the front of the grate, while air under natural draught passes through the fuel at the rear of the grate. Hot gases from the flues, heated air, or superheated steam may be delivered above the fire if desired. As shown in Fig. 1, a deep trough a is arranged beneath the front part of the grate and is provided with a steam or air nozzle g discharging into an induction pipe h, and doors i,j. The trough a communicates by means of pipes a<2> with a chamber k surrounding the door opening, so that air may pass from the trough a to the chamber k and be delivered through the nozzle l above the fire. Steam and compressed-air nozzles are arranged to discharge through the nozzle l. Air in regulated quantities and direct from the atmosphere, and hot gases from the flues, may be supplied to the chamber k.
