Abstract

Hinges; door checks.-In railway - wagon door fastenings of the sliding and pivoted stanchion type, the hinge-pin for the stanchion and that for the door are provided on the same fitting. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the stanchion a is pivoted on the pin c mounted in the fitting l, which pin itself forms the hinge-pin for the door j. In the form shown in Fig. 5, the hinge-pin of the door is separate from that of the stanchion, and is journaled in the lug k on the fitting l and above the hinge of the stanchion. The stanchion is shown in Fig. 1 as provided with a slot engaging the pin c, and in Fig. 5 with pins n engaging slots b in the guides, grooves v being formed in the guides to receive the flanges of the stanchion. The slots b are provided with lateral extensions o, into which when the stanchion is raised, the pins n are forced by a spring p so as to keep the stanchion raised. In this form, the free end of the stanchion is shown as acting against a spring piston q which acts as a buffer in lowering the door. A blade spring may be employed instead of the piston q.
