Abstract

20,937. Heslop, J. J. S. Sept, 20. Friction gearing.-Relates to friction gearing having concentric driving and driven elements and intermediate pinions. The driving-shaft a carries a central pinion c gearing with the intermediate pinions e, which in turn gear with a driven annulus d. The friction surfaces are tapered, and springs i, abutting against a frame plate g<1> and surrounding the spindles f which support the pinions e, maintain frictional contact by wedge action. The spindles f are carried by side plates g, g' running on ball bearings, and the frame so formed. is prevented from rotating by a stop j, Fig. 1, or by a friction brake. According to the Provisional Specification, the gear is applicable for high-speed electric &c. motors.
