Abstract
18,571. Dunoyer, L. D. J. A. Aug. 16, 1906, [date applied for under Patents, Act, 1901]. Bearings, instruments for determining.-In an apparatus for finding true magnetic divergence, two exactly similar earth inductor coils are mounted side by side on a rotatable frame A, and connected to two galvanometers G, G<1> through split commutator rings a, band brushes c, d, either the commutator rings or the pairs of brushes being displaced angularly from one another by 90 degrees, for the purpose of producing deflexions in the galvanometer proportional to two rectangular components of the earth's horizontal field. The galvanometers are arranged with their axes of rotation at right-angles in an horizontal plane, and their mirrors reflect images of two threads or luminous filaments F placed at right-angles, on a translucent plate P, which has a vector scale marked with the points of the compass. The point of intersection of the two images when the frame A is rotated indicates the divergence of the ships course from the magnetic meridian, or from the geographical meridian, the plate P in the latter case being rotated through an angle equal to the magnetic declinatiou. The invention is a development of that of Specification No. 4609, A.D. 1907.
