Compasses, magnetic.-A compass, such as is described in Specification No. 8305, A.D. 1901, having a card m of small diameter relatively to the size of the bowl a, is fitted with a mirror b, which may be a magnifying mirror, round all or part of the bowl. The lubber line q is affixed to the bowl. Slotted. sighting-devices c, c' are provided, the part c' being hinged at c' to provide for adjustment for variation of angle of observation. The compass card m may have a down-turned rim m<1>, or may be formed as an annulus with its periphery disposed vertically on which degrees &c. are marked. The invention applies also to cards in a vacuum or part vacuum.
