Speed indicators.-A hollow drum rotated by internal clock-work is provided with a paper shell bearing peripheral lines spirally arranged representing hours and longitudinal ones representing minutes. The circumference of the drum is divided by the minute lines into fifty-nine spaces, and is driven so that each space moves past a vehicle-actuated marker in a minute, the hours &c. being arranged as shown in Fig. 3. The marker i is carried by an arm j secured to a carrier mounted on a clock-rotated screw f, Fig. 2. The carrier is traversed through a screwed segment k, which may be withdrawn by suitable means such as a setscrew q. The marker is actuated by the vehicle through a lever connected by a rod v to the spraycontrolled arm q. The rod is depressed by the lever, and on its return under the influence of the spring s a rod p carried by the arm q forces the marker on to the paper. The Specification, in the original form, as published under the Act of 1901, comprises also alternative means for driving the actuating-lever consisting of worm gearing and pins upon the worm-wheel and for withdrawing the screwed sector from the traversing-screw, consisting of a spring-pressed rod and a pin thereon engaging in a bayonet slot. This subject-matter does not appear in the Complete Specification as accepted.
