Abstract
18,307. Loss, H. V. von Z. Aug. 13. Rolling.-In a mill for rolling locomotive &c. tyres, a pair of conical edge rolls 69, 70 are used, one 69 of which, along with the external roll 40, is driven from a shaft 44, the rolls 69, 70 being moved towards or from the roll 40, 59 and the guide-rolls 101, 129 simultaneously adjusted by an electric motor 91. The roll spindle 41 is mounted in the frame 92 and in a plate 45 adjustable on another plate 46 connected with the frame, adjustment for wear being effected by wedges 57,58. The carriage 61 supporting the roll 59 is adjusted on guides 90 by means of hydraulic cylinders 65, 67. A cup 49, pulled down over the roll 40 by a cylinder 52 against the action of a weight 55, prevents the tyre 39 from jumping up. The rolls 69,70 are of such conicity that their vertices lie on the axis of the finished tyre. The upper one 70 is loose on its shaft 73, which is trunnioned at 77 and adjusted by cylinders 74, 78 and screws 87. The roll carriage 72 is operated by screws 98, which, by means of skew and spur gearing 112, 111, 109 and screws 107, simultaneously slide the roller carriages 100 on the guides 99. The roller carriages 130 are moved along guides 131 by means of levers 126, trunnion blocks 125, a screw 123, and gearing 122, 121, 120, 119, 94, 93. The connexion between the wheel 94 and the sleeve 133 is one which will give way under excessive strain, as are also the connexions tetween the gears 96 and the shaft 95. The sleeve 133 can be clutched to the shaft 95 at 136 by a hand - controlled clutch. The guideroll pivots are secured axially and against rotation by caps 139.
