Abstract
17,237. Jaubert, G. F. Jan. 7, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Respirators.-In breathing-apparatus for use in an impure atmosphere, comprising a store of air or other respirable gas under pressure, an emergency supply may be carried, and the apparatus includes a pressure-reducing valve and means for establishing a direct flow of gas in case of necessity. Fig. 1 shows apparatus in which three gas cylinders a, b, c for ordinary use, and an emergency cylinder d controlled by a cock f, are connected to a pipe z provided with a gas-supply cock e. Normally, the gas passes through the reducing-valve h to the pipe m, bag o, and mouthpiece n, which is connected with the inspiration and expiration valves q, s. When necessary, by opening the cock k communication between the pipes m, x is established through the pipe x<1>. Fig. 2 shows apparatus in which a single store of gas is used. The reducing-valve h is regulated by a screw t and stop-yoke u. The branch valve k is connected by a flexible pipe w to the nozzle v to which the discharge pipe is fitted.
