Abstract
16,446. Chemische Fabriken vorm. Weiler-ter Meer. Aug. 1, 1906, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. a-Naphthylamine is freed from #-naphthylamine &c. by curing the homogeneous mixture produced when technical a-naphthylamine is heated with a small quantity of xylene or certain other organic solvents. The pure substance separates out almost entirely ; the residue, together with the #-naphthylamine present, is freed from the organic solvent, and the mass heated with dilute hydrochloric acid. On cooling, more pure e-naphthylamine separates. The filtrate on treatment with dilute sulphuric acid gives a precipitate of #-naphthylamine sulphate, which may be converted into the free base.
