9857. B a s l e r Chemische F a b r i k. April 28, 1906, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Camphor is produced by oxidizing isoborneol by means of nitric acid, containing nitrous acid, at low temperatures. According to examples, a temperature of 0‹ C. is employed with fuming nitric acid, 10 to 15‹ C. with 60 per-cent nitric acid, and 25 to 30‹ C. with 50-per-cent nitric acid.
