Pitch.-In insulating-compositions such as those described in Specification No. 3345, A.D. 1906, [Abridgment Class Electricity, Conducting &c.], the stearin-pitch is dissolved in carbon tetrachloride, carbon bisulphide, benzol, coal-tar oil, or other solvent, and to three parts approximately of this solution is added 1 part of a solution formed by dissolving 1 part of caustic soda in 5 to 8 parts of water. The mixture is well agitated and allowed to settle, and the pitch solution separated. Sometimes the pitch is heated to a temperature of 150- 200‹ C. previous to the above treatment.
