Abstract

13,522. Harris, J. T. June 11. Liquids, treating.-Water and other liquids are purified and sterilized by electrolysis between iron anodes and aluminium cathodes in a magnetic field. The electrodes are arranged as shown in Figs. 4 and 6 ; all the anodes 2 are connected by a rod 16 and secured by nuts 17, and the cathodes 2<1> by a rod 16<1> with iron nuts 17', the rods 16, 16<1> being supported by wood pieces 18 ; these, when in position, rest upon pipes 4, 5 through which air, which may be ozonized, and steam are introduced. The electrodes are further supported by rods 19 covered by insulation 20. An electro-magnet 3 is supported by a wood piece 27 resting on the pieces 18 above each group of electrodes. The current is brought to the anodes by rods 22 supported in insulators 21, straps 23, and pins 24, similar connexions being provided for the cathodes. The liquid to be purified enters at one end of the apparatus and leaves at the other, the purification being secured by the production of hydrates of the metals composing the electrodes. A small electrode surface of copper may be provided, connected with either the cathodes or anodes. The sediment is removed when necessary through openings 13, closed by covers 14 screwed into rings 15.
