Targets.-Consists of mechanism for raising and lowering disappearing targets for definite relative periods and moving the targets horizontally when they are lowered out of sight so as to appear in different places when they are raifed into view again. The target 1 is carried by a frame 3 which is mounted in vertical guides 4 and is lowered and raised for definite periods by its own weight and by a cord 7 which passes over fixed pulleys 8 and is attached to a weighted lever 6 connected by a lifting-chain 12 to a cam-disk 10 driven by clockwork, electric means, or otherwise. An horizontal sliding spring bolt is forced into engagement with slots in the vertical frame 3 by the cam-disk 10 and is retracted by a spring 15 to release the frame when notches 18, 17 in the cam come opposite the forked end 16 of the bolt. The target is lowered out of sight, while the spring bolt is between the notches 17, 18 of the cam, and is raised into view for the shorter period during which the part between the notches 18, 17 of the cam passes the bolt. A weight keeps the cord 7 taut. When the target is lowered, a projection 20 at the bottom comes into the path of knuckle-jointed tappets 19 on an horizontal rod 21 reciprocated by a slotted lever 25 and a crank disk 23 driven from a cam shaft.
