Abstract
12,583. Lake, H. W., [Chemische Fabrik G³strow]. May 30. Enamels and glazes.-In producing the white clouding of enamels and glazes, artificially-produced titanates of earthy alkali metals or earthy metals are added to the ready melted and ground glass mass ; or compounds of zirconic acid with earthy alkali metals or earthy metals, or zirconic acid alone may be employed. Specifications No. 9611, A.D. 1893, and No. 18,152, A.D. 1900, are referred to. These clouding-materials, either singly, or mixed with one another or with other clouding- materials, such as oxide of tin, phosphates of the earthy alkalies, &c., are added in the proportion of from five to ten per cent, for example, to the glass mass. In order to remove slight yellowish or brown tints, small quantities of cobalt oxide or cupric oxide may be added. According to the Provisional Specification, various minerals containing the required compounds of titanium and zirconium may be employed.
