Abstract

421,142. Glass manufacture. FISCHER, M., FISCHER, H., and FISCHER,M., (trading as GLASWERK G. FISCHER), 32, Langewiesenerstrasse, Ilmenau, Thuringia, Germany. Dec. 19, 1933, No. 35761. Convention date, Dec. 19, 1932. Addition to 415,536. [Class 56] Relates to the method of forming luminescent glass, described in the parent Specification, in which one or more sulphides of zinc, calcium, barium, or strontium are added to the glass together with an activating material consisting of a compound of one or more heavy metals. According to the present invention, oxides or selenides are used instead of, or in addition to, the sulphides. When oxides are 'used, they are added to the body of glass after melting has taken place, or are mixed with cullet which is to be melted for use. The oxides or selenides may be added as such, or they may be formed by reaction in the molten glass. Examples of a number of glasses are given in the Specification.
