Abstract
12,482. Knabe, B. von, and Zawadzki, J. May 29. Pile fabrics; carpets.-In weaving figured warppile fabrics or carpets resembling Smyrna, Savonnerie, Imperial, and Persian carpets, a series of pile warps B, C, D, Fig. 3, are provided for each pair of ground warps A, S, and each selected pile warp is looped under the warp A and bound in by a weft 1, so that, after cutting, the pile tufts are in the form of two parallel "J's" connected by their short arms. Wefts 2, 3 are inserted between the rows of tufts. Looms, pile forming and cutting in; healds and leashes; shedding-motions; comber - boards.-In a loom for weaving the fabrics described above, each ground warp A, Fig. 2, passes between healds II through the upper loop of a heald I, which may be provided with a mail, and through the loops of U -shaped pile warp healds b, c, d, e to a reed space. The warp S passes through the mail of a heald II and past all the other healds to the same or an adjacent reed space. The pile warps B, C, D, E pass from separate spools between the healds II, through the loop of a heald I, and through the mails of their healds b, c, d, e to the same reed space as the warp A. The warps B, C, D pass through the loops of the healds c, d, e, and d, e, and e respectively. The ends of each pile-warp heald are attached to jacquard leashes passing through adjacent comber-board openings in a row parallel to the lay. The comber-board is extended to one or both sides in accordance with the width of the fabric, and counterweights are suspended from the jacquard leashes. When the warp B, say, is to be woven in to form a tuft, the end b<1> of its heald is raised and the end b<11> is lowered, while the ends c<11>, d<11>, e<11> of the other healds are raised and the ends c<1>, d<1>, e<1> are lowered. The warp B is thereby looped under the warp A. Each pile-warp heald may otherwise consist of two loops each attached to a jacquard leash, and the pile warp passes through each loop, while the warp A passes between the loops. The loops may be cut by means of knife-bars r, Fig. 3, or by shearing.
