Abstract

14,050. Zawadzki, J., and Knabe, B. June 19. Pile fabrics ; carpets ; looms, pile forming and cutting in ; healds and leashes ; shedding- motions. - Pile fabrics, resembling chenille fabrics, for carpets and covers are produced by weaving simultaneously a ground fabric and trausverse chenille strips, and binding the strips to the ground fabric. The ground warps b, Fig. 3, which are of jute twine and are preferably woven double, and the binding-warps d of well-twisted cotton or of iron wire are shed by heald frames, and the pile warps g, g<1>, g<2> are passed through the small eyes of jacquard leashes h, Fig. 2. The leashes h are divided into groups, and the oddnumbered leashes i<1>, i<3> are connected by bars L, which are raised and lowered by lever mechanism and pass through elongated eyes on the leashes. The leashes i<2>, i<4> are similarly connected by bars L. To weave the fabric, the warps d are raised, the warps b are lowered, and the selected pile warps are lowered by the jacquard and shed by the bars l, L and connected mechanism while the wefts m, m<1>, m<2>, m<3> are inserted. All the pile warps and the warps bare then raised, the warps dare lowered, and a body weft n is inserted. The warps b are then lowered, a sharp-edged or grooved rod o is inserted, and the process is repeated. The fabrics can be produced without the use of the bars l, L but in this case more jacquard cards are required. The rods o may be withdrawn without cutting the pile loops, in which case the pile threads are cut flush to form tufts after the fabric is removed from the loom. When the rods o are withdrawn in the loom so as to cut the pile threads above them, a movable and rotatable roller is preferably arranged at the front of the loom and is adapted to press the fabric against a board to hold the cut pile threads in position and prevent them from being drawn out of the fabric.
