Abstract

11,874. Siemens Bros. Dynamo Works, and Poynder, H. B. May 22. Dynamos and motors combined for transmitting power.-In systems in which a polyphase motorflywheel set is used to maintain the load on the mains constant, the flywheel-motor is controlled by supplying to the rotor alternating current of varying frequency from an independent synchronous machine, the speed of the prime mover driving the synchronous machine being automatically controlled so as to vary with the current in the mains. The speed control may be effected by any known method, for instance by varying the resistance in the rotor circuit of an induction motor as in the Ilgner system. ln the arrangement shown, the Ward-Leonard system is employed. The synchronous generator d supplying current to the flywheel-motor set c, b is driven by a directcurrent motor e, the armature of which is supplied with current from a machine f on the fly-wheel shaft s. The machines d, e, f are exerted from any suitable source of direct current, such as a motor-generator g, h, the field of the machine f being connected across a rheostat i, the position of the contacts on which is varied by an apparatus of the motor-brake type k connected up to a series transformer j.
