Hoists; lifting-cradles.-Relates to apparatus for hoisting and handling tank sections and similar bodies having peripheral flanges, of the kind comprising a support from which is suspended a balance bearn having adjustable attaching means at each end for pivotaily engaging the body. As shown in Fig. 1, the anparatus is suspended from the pistonrod 5 of a fluid-pressure cylinder 3 depending from a trolly 8 running on an overhead girder, and comprises an I-girder 1 suspended by a centrallydisposed shackle 2, attached to the upper flange and having brackets 12 sliding on the lower flange which may be fixed in position thereon by pins 13 passing through the brackets and through symmetrically-disposed holes 11 in the girder. From the brackets 12 depend links 15 carrying at their lower ends swivel eyes 16 pivotally connected to the attaching-devices for engaging the object. In the form shown, the attaching-devices are constituted by bars 18 having at one end fixed pins 19 and at the other end spring-controlled pins 21, Fig. 4, capable of being withdrawn by a handle 23. These pins are adapted to enter the rivet holes formed in the flanges of the tank sections. In a modification, the bars 18 are provided with screw clamps, Fig. 6, one, 27, fixed and the other adjustable, for engaging flanges which have not been perforated. The section may be rotated about the pin 17, as shown in dotted lines.
