Electric traction.-In alternating-current traction systems in which the potential drop in the return conductor d is reduced by transformers having their primary windings in series with one feeder b, the secondary windings t<1> ... t<4> are connected in series in an auxiliary return conductor c, placed close to the rail and bonded therewith by connectors e at points close to the transformers, the ratio of which is nearly unity. The overhead conductor is in sections o<1> ... o<4>, each connected to the feeder b by a conductor f. The mains b, c may be constructed as a concentric or twin-core cable to give a minimum inductive drop.
