Abstract

466. British Thomson-Houston Co., [General Electric Co.]. Jan. 7. Systems adapted specially for alternating current.-Relates more particularly to electric railway systems using alternating current, and consists in means for neutralizing the inductive disturbances due to such systems upon adjacent conductors. For this purpose an auxiliary conductor is carried in proximity to the usual outgoing conductor, and a current of equal and opposite quantity is caused to flow therein. In order to neutralize also the electrostatic effect of the system, voltages of substantially like value but different sign are impressed upon the usual and auxiliary conductors. Fig. 2 shows diagrammatically a railway system with means for neutralizing both the electro-magnetic and electrostatic inductive disturbances. The conductors 2, 2<1> are connected to the transformer 7 as shown, so as to have voltages of like value but different sign. Transformers 6, having the same number of turns in each winding, cause a current of equal but opposite quantity to flow in each conductor. Compensators 10 connecting the conductors 2, 2<1> and the rails 3 are placed at intervals.
