Abstract
8684. Griffiths, W. H. April 15. Sleepers are made from channelled metal, and blocks of wood or other suitable material, such as a composition of cement, are fitted in the end portions so as to be capable of receiving the spikes for securing the rails. The sides of the sleeper are set inwards and a bevel is formed at the outer edges so that clamp plates C can be secured thereto. The wood blocks are forced in from the ends, and the clamp plates then driven on into the position shown.
