Abstract
8085. Pilcher, N. G. April 6. Golf; croquet; rackets; polo.-Handles for golf sticks, rackets, polo and croquet mallets, &c. formed with impressions of the hand are made by wrapping round them strips of plastic substances with or without a controlling-strip of fabric or flexible material. The plastic material 1 and controlling- strip 2 are shown in Fig. 1 wound spirally on the' handle with the lap edge 3 of one turn lying under the adjacent butt edge of the next, and are secured by rivets, cement, or other means. In Fig. 2, the controlling-strip 2 is shown stuck on the surface of the spirally-wound plastic material, and when desirable a second layer of the mixture may be wound outside this. Suitable compositions are, (1) for a gutta-percha composition, gutta-percha 12 parts, pitch (club-makers') 24 parts, heelball 6 parts, raw linseed oil 1 part, and cork sawdust 4 parts, and (2) for an india-rubber composition, pure unvulcanized rubber 2 parts and rubber substitutes and adulterants 3 parts.
