Abstract

Bats; rackets; hockey.-A device for applying india-rubber covers to the handles of cricket bats, tennis rackets; hockey sticks, &c. consists of a metal or wooden rod a, Fig. 6, with a tapered part a<1> having a recessed end to which is attached a, preferably, slightly tapered socket b. This socket is preferably flush with the part a<1>, and is formed with spring portions b<2>, which are placed over the handle on which the cover is to be placed. The socket b may be attached to the stick by means of pins, which may be passed through countersunk holes. The side of the socket b may be formed with slits. In applying the cover c, it is put on the rod a and rolled up into a ring, and is then passed over the socket b on to the arms b<2>, which are depressed by the ring, and the ring is then passed on to the handle. In another form, the fixing pins are dispensed with, the socket b being of a greater taper than that shown.
