Abstract

7954. Griffiths, V. April 5. Handles.-In apparatus for cleaning windows, walls, ceilings, mirrors, cornices, &c., the duster, brush, &c. is secured to a wire frame B attached in a pivotal manner to a handle G. As shown in Fig. 1, the handle is pivoted by means of a thumbscrew to a wooden slab A, in which the frame is fixed. The duster in this construction is held by clips E, Figs. 1 and 5, adjustable by means of sliding loops F. The holder shown in Fig. 6 is constructed entirely of wire and is pivoted to the handle by means of a fork L, the arms of which terminate in hooks for engaging loops K on the frame. The distance between the ends of the arms is adjusted by moving the cross-bar M. The clips shown in this Figure consist of wire loops C<1> held in position by hooks C<3>. Two similar frames may be oppositely mounted on a pair of cross-bars pivotally secured to a handle. In the device shown in Fig. 11, for use when cleaning the exterior of a window from inside the room, the frame is attached by clips Y to a cord W running round pulleys V carried by brackets T on an adjustable upright O, P. A brush may be temporarily attached to the frame by means of spring clips carried by the brush, or by a piece of wood to which the brush may be secured.
