Slipping of wheels, preventing. - To p r e v e n t side - slip in motor and other road vehicles, one or other of two auxiliary wheels or shoes mounted in divergent arms pivoted beneath the vehicle comes into contact with the road during side-slip, owing to the lateral displacement of the vehicle relatively to a wheeled trailer. An horizontal frame a, supported by a wheel f, is pivoted to the vehicle so as to be capable of lateral and vertical displacement, and is provided with projections which bear against arms g pivoted to the axle or underframe. The arms g carry shoes or wheels h having metal, rubber, leather, or other tyres, the peripheries of which are preferably tapered, and are either grooved as shown in Fig. 1, or plain as shown in Fig. 3. Two or more sets of apparatus may be used. The wheels f, h are mounted vertically beneath the axle of the vehicle so as to enable it to turn freely. When the device is not required, the trailer is raised by a lever or pedal. In a modification, the trailing wheel f and projections j are carried on a frame pivoted longitudinally in the trailing bar, which is fixed horizontally. The movement of the arms g is limited by stops g<1>.
