Abstract
5006. Underwood, J. T. March 1. Typewriters.- Relates to means for r altering the throw of the ribbonvibrator in order to bring into use different parts of the width of the ribbon. The vibrator 14 is provided with ears 15 which loosely embrace a vertical guide 16 so as to permit of a slight rocking motion thereon. The vibrator is reciprocated by a lever 17 pivoted to a projection 19 on a bar 20, which is carried by, and can slide on, the platen-shifting rail 8. The lever 17 is provided on opposite sides with two pins 25, 28, which are at different distances from the fulcrum 18 and can be engaged by slotted projections 27, 30 carried by the universal bar frame 13. The bar 20 and lever 17 are shifted, in order to bring either of the pins 25, 28 into engagement with the frame 13, by means of a shaft 34, having at one end finger-levers 32, 33, and at the other an arm which engages a nolch 37 in the bar 20. The shaft 34 is held in either position by an arm 39 which is engaged by a spring detent 38. Specification No. 10,062, A.D. 1906, is referred to.
