Latches.-A gate &c. is fastened by means of a sliding latch bolt B, which works through the vertical bar A of the gate and is adapted to engage with the striking-plate L on the gate post when the gate is shut. The latch is operated by means of a bell-crank G, which is pivoted to a bracket J ; the end K of the lever is weighted so as to keep the bolt shot. A striking-plate with a double incline is used when the gate opeus both ways.
