Pivoted to this is the lever i, which is so shaped as to engage with the lever a pivoted at b to the lower sash. By turning the lever a in the direction of the arrow, the window can be unfastened, the levers lying on their respective sashes flush with the dividing line. The lever a is made of such a length as to bear against the end of the plate e or against a spring, for the purpose of forcing the sashes apart to prevent rattling.
