Relates to stands for displaying boots and shoes, particularly to that kind in which a clipping-device is supported on a stand or support by a ball-and-socket or other universal. joint. Pieces A, A, having jaws a, a', are slidably secured to a base-plate B by suitable means such as downwardly bent enlarged parts a<#> working in slots B<1>, B<2>, and by means of bent extensions b<1> on the plate B and if desired similar parts a<2> on the pieces A, A<1>. The plate B may be supported on any form of stand, and in the form shown is carried by the ball C of a ball-and-socket joint having a split socket held together by a screw F which passes through a preferably plain hole in the loose part D<1> into a screwed hole in the part D. The parts A, A' may be urged together by suitable means such as a spring on the neck of the ball C having arms g, g<1>, or one or two spiral springs. The parts A, A', may be connected by a bar H, which is pivoted to the plate B or to a plate J upon it, and has two projecting ends h, h<1>, working in holes a<3>, a<4> or pivoted to the pieces A, A<1>. The ends g, g<1> of the spring or the free ends of the spiral springs, if such are used, may be joined to the ends h, h<1>, but a spring pull on one end only is sufficient when the rod H is employed. For locking the clip parts in position, an outer or inner edge of the plate B may have teeth b<2> adapted to be engaged by a lever catch K controlled by a spring k. A finger-plate k<2> may be provided for releasing the catch. Instead of the spring k, any suitable spring may be employed.
