Gas cooking - stoves; hot - plates; burners. -A non-conductor of heat, such as asbestos plaster or twine, is attached to the upper parts of the bars of hot-plates of gas cookers, or, in connexion with annular burners, to those parts which support the cooking or other utensils, to prevent the transmission of beat from the hot utensils to the bars &c. Fig. 1 shows a piece a of sheet or other metal with asbestos cement b plastered on its upper edge, which is perforated to enable the cement to adhere to it. These pieces a are slipped over the bars of the hotplate, or over the utensil-supporting parts of the gas burners. Fig. 3 shows a modification, in which asbestos twine e is interwoven over the top of the piece a, the ends of the twine being passed through and secured in the holes f. A frame, shown in Fig. 5, is fitted with several asbestos-tipped supports g, like those shown in Fig. 1, and is attached to the hot-plate bars by stirrups k, Fig. 6, secured by screw-and-nut attachments i,j working in the slots h at the corners of the frame. Fig. 7 shows a bar l with an asbestos edge b, and Fig. 8 shows a bar built up of two thin metal pieces m with short asbestos &c. blocks n between their upper edges.
