Abstract

3815. Kidney, W. C. Feb. 15. Bicycles; frames.-In bicycles of the type in which a seatless frame is employed, the rider lying prone on the machine when propelling the legs and body being in alinement, the steering-handles are arranged in front of the rider's head and the body of the rider is supported on a shoulder plate 10 adjustable along and away from the tube to which it is attached. The head 1 carrying the steering-fork 20 and the handle-bar, is connected by the bottom bar 3 and the top bar 9 to the journal box 4 of the driving-axle, and by a tube 19 to the down-tube 6, the downtube also joining the journal box 4. A cross-tube 19<a> starting from the junction of the tubes 9, 19 and joined to the tube 3, carries a second journal box 6<a>, this box being connected to the head 1 by a stay 30, and to the other journal box by the chain stays 6<c>, the rear fork 6<b> being connected to the chain stays at the wheel axle. The drive is either direct from the driving-sprocket 12 to the wheel sprocket 18, that part of the framing below the tube 3 being in this case dispensed with, or indirectly through the high-speed gear-wheels a, c, mounted either in the journal box 6<d> or at the junction of the down-tube 6 and the rear-forks 6‹.
