Gases, treating with liquids; hydrochloric acid; hydrofluoric acid ; sulphuric acid.-Arsenic that is present as the chloride or fluoride may be removed from liquids or gases, for example from sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, hydrofluoric acid, and gases containing sulphur dioxide, by means of derivatives of the aliphatic hydrocarbons in place of the benzene derivatives mentioned in Specification No. 974, A.D. 1907. To remove arsenic from sulphuric acid, carbon tetrachloride is most suitable ; for gases, acetylene tetrachloride is used. The purifying-agents may be freed from arsenic by washing with water.
