Abstract
2521. Sack, H. Jan. 31. Rolling. -In three-high or other mills with two or more sets of rolls, mounted in housings with closed tops, one housing of each pair is movable endways, to permit of the ready removal &c. of the rolls. In the mill shown in Fig. 2, the housings c', c<4> are slid on the bed-plate by means of hydraulic cylinders 6, 7, the motion being limited in one direction by shoulders w on the roll frames b, and in the other direction by bolts 3 and cotters t. The adjusting- screws in the movable housings are operated by square shafts 23 and sliding wheels 22 from motors 5. The coupling-sleeves 9 move with the housing c', as also does the support 12 for the intermediate spindles, but only to half the extent of the housing, this being effected by rods 10 and cotters. In the mill shown in Fig. 9, the housings c', c' &c. are movable, the rolls being shown ready for removal along with their bearings.
