Abstract
2483. Schreiber, R. Jan. 31. Furniture, adjusting height of; castors.-The legs of pianofortes are so constructed that the instrument is adjustable in height and is supported in a resilient manner. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the reversible member b is provided with sockets of different depths, and a rubber pad or spring c at the bottom of each to receive the extensions of the upper part a and footpiece m. In the construction illustrated in Fig. 2, the reversible member b has a collar b<2> nearer one end than the other, and sockets are formed in the members a, m. The parts bear upon rubber pads c, d. The legs are preferably attached by means of a bayonet-joint connexion comprising a projection g and a hollow metallic member e containing a rubber or other spring j ; a washer k of hard rubber is interposed. The castor may be detachably mounted in a similar manner, or it may be mounted directly on the footpiece m. A metal arm n may be mounted on an inclined pivot o to serve as an insulator in the position shown ; or it may be placed out of the way as indicated in dotted lines, the foot-piece in this case being extended.
