Rolling.-Axial or skew rolls or platens for rolling rods, tubes, &c. have their operating-faces ribbed as shown, the ribs on the different rolls being staggered relatively to each other and gradually diminishing in size from the entering end of the rolls. The rolls may have flat surfaces e at the exit ends, which smooth the surface of the rod or tube, and in the case of a tube loosen it upon the mandrel to facilitate removal.
