Abstract

1463. Evans, W. E., [Minimax Consolidated, Ltd.]. Jan. 19 Elastic-fluid turbines.-Steam is condensed in a rotating body c, from which the condensation water is discharged at d by centrifugal force, the reduced pressure thus obtained being utilized to effect the entry of the condensing-water at g. The rotation may be obtained by means of a turbine b driven by the exhaust, the steam afterwards passing through the orifices h, i in the hollow shaft f into the condenser c. The lower part of the chamber c is provided with vanes p and separated off by a partition o. The condenser is preferably mounted in a casing a which serves as an air chamber, the water being discharged under pressure through a pipe n. The condenser may also be mounted so as not to be immersed in the condensation water, a separate water tank being provided if necessary. The apparatus is particularly adapted for use in conjunction with turbines.
