Abstract

1440. Holden, A. Jan. 19. Chenille.-Chenille or pile yarn, employed in manufacturing Turkish cotton or linen towels or other suitable pile fabrics, is obtained by first weaving a fabric having warp threads A, A', Fig. 2, in groups or series situated at some distance apart ; each series is composed of several threads, of which one or more are crossed or wrapped round the other or others by the use of doup healds. The web is cut so as to enclose two or more of these series of warp threads, which are then twisted together ; this produces a yarn, Fig. 4, having firmly-secured loop pile formed by the weft threads B between the groups of warps, and single pile formed by the free weft ends.
