Abstract

813. Davies, J. Jan. 11. Brakes. - Brake valves and steam valves are operated by a pivoted lever on the engine engaging a rail a on the track. The rail a is swung on cranks b<2> to and from the running rails, connexion being made by flexible members to existing signal wires or to special levers. The pivoted lever d', which is provided with a roller d', is connected by links e', e' to a rock. shaft f, carrying an arm f<1> operating a valve in the main steam-pipe, and an arm g<4> connected to a valve g<2> which supplies steam to the break pipe g'. The valves are held in their operated position, until released by the driver, by a pawl h on the shaft engaging a pivoted rack. The apparatus on the engine is duplicated to provide for the reversal of direction of running of the engine. [Reference has been directed under Section 7 of- Patents &c. Act, 1907, to Specifications Nos. 4665 and 18363, A.D. 1901, [Abridgment Class Railway signals &c.].]
