Abstract
29,546. Parsons, C. A. Dec. 28. Elastic-fluid turbines.-The parts of the turbine or compressor drum and casing near the roots of the blades and vanes are covered by thin strips secured with, or integral with the blade-holding strips, in order to prevent corrosion. Fig. 1 shows an L-shaped strip e caulked into the groove with the blade-holding strip b. Fig. 3 shows a construction in which two L-shaped strips meet midway. In a third modification, the covering - strip is channel-shaped and is caulked into two adjacent grooves. These strips may be made integral with the blade-holding strips. The strips may be caulked into special grooves n, as shown in Fig. 6. The surfaces of the strips may be finely corrugated, as described in Specification No. 22,127, A.D. 1905, and the embedded parts may be plain or corrugated as shown in the upper and lower blades in Figs. 1, 3, and 6. Fig. 3 also shows a side packing o which bears against a projecting ring p on the protecting - strip. According to the Provisional Specification, the blade-holding strips are of the form described in Specification No. 16,284, A.D. 1899. The invention is also applicable to staffing- boxes.
