Abstract

27,497. Lemyre, J. E. Dec. 3. Loom shuttles.-Relates to shuttles of the type in which a sleeve is mounted on the spindle and is held in position by the weft until the latter is substantially exhausted, the sleeve being then moved by the impact of the shuttle on the picker so that feeler-mechanism operates weft-replenishing mechanism. The preferably hollow spindle b is held in the shuttle by means of the usual annular ribs d on its head c, and is provided with the usuad annular grooves f. The sleeve g has internal ribs h, which fit loosely into the grooves f, and the end next the head of the spindle is provided with a flange k, while projections l on the opposite end extend into slots e in the spindle. A spring n is secured in the shuttle and extends along the inside of the usual slot a' in the shuttle side, so that it is struck by the feeler when in its normal position. The spring has two projections t, t<1>, and when the sleeve is in its normal .position with the flange k against the spindle head c, one of the projections t, t<1> bears against the flange k. The sleeve is normally hold in position by the weft, which engages the grooves in the sleeve and the spindle ; but when the weft is exhausted, the sleeve is moved until the flange k is opposite the recess between the projections t, t<1>, or beyond the projection t<1>, when the spring n flies towards the spindle out of the reach uf the feeler.
