Abstract

26,979. Abbey, A. T. Nov. 27. Locks, key; latches.-In a tubular mortise lock, the latch bolt, under the control of the spring e, is operated by a push-and-pull motion of the knobs, an incline j<2> on the spindle co-operating with a roller d' mounted in a longitudinal slot d<2> in the bolt. The outer and inner knobs j, k are secured to two superimposed spindles j<1>, k<1>, respectively, and are so arranged that the inner knob can be operated without the outer one, each spindle being provided with an incline j<2>. Mounted to frictionally slide on the top of the bolt is a saddle plate g which, by means of a knob h on the inside of the door, can be moved so as to obstruct the passage of a pin j<3> on the upper spindle j<1>, and so lock the bolt against operation from the outside. The inside knob h will, however, still withdraw the bolt, thus enabling a person inside the room to open the door, and to leave the room locked until his return, when he can operate the saddle plate g by means of a key i in his possession.
