Abstract

26,306. Zwicky, J. Nov. 21, 1905, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Carburetting.-In a carburettor arranged to produce carburetted air free from water and other residues, a bell d, vertically guided in a vessel h which contains carburetting-liquid to the level of an inlet f, is divided internally by a partition d', and the lower compartment is formed with a spiral passage containing porous material extending not quite to the bottom, in order that any water &c. collecting there may not be absorbed. Such water may be withdrawn by means of a cock. Air enters by a pipe a passing nearly to the top of the bell d when the latter is in its lowest position, and passes round the spiral passage, out through holes near the bottom of the bell d, and up through the liquid in the vessel h. The carburetted air passes through porous material supported on a sieve e in the vessel h, and through porous material in an external vessel c. In use, the air pressure causes the bell d to rise somewhat in the vessel h. In a modification, porous material is arranged between a series of permeable concentric rings, and the air passes radially therethrough.
