7925. Laitte, L. B. de. April 4. Carburetting.-Air is carburetted by being passed through a prolonged horizontal passage the lower boundary of which is a liquid surface on which the oil floats. Oil is admitted through a pipe h, Fig. 1, to the centre, of a vessel a fitted with a spiral partition and immersed in water in a vessel e on the bottom of which it rests loosely. Water, which may be warm, is admitted from a pipe i, and air through holes b<1>, and the level of the water is adjusted by means of a pivoted pipe f. Carburetted air is drawn off at c. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the inverted vessel a is adjustably counterbalanced at p, and is supplied with air under pressure through a pipe j fitted with a non- return valve j<1> covered by a plate k. Oil and water are supplied through flexible pipes m, n, provided with valves m<1>, n<1> automatically actuated according to, the position of the vessel a, and also with hand-operated valves. In either form, the oil may be supplied in measured quantities, at a rate proportional to the air supply, by known means.
